The process

REAP AND SOW

We work with only the most responsible of suppliers.

Step1

Our priority

Our timber is grown from sustainable and managed forests. Only the highest quality timber is selected.

LET IT GROW

There is an ever increasing environmental awareness towards the supply of timber and rightly so.

Step2

Sustainability. Our commitment.

We take this responsibility seriously. Managed properly, timber is a naturally sustainable material.

We only use timber experts to select the best timber

RESPONSIBLY SOURCED

All of our timber derives from sustainably managed forests which are certified according to FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standards.

Step3

Standing proud

We are also proud to be aligned with the Timber Trade Federation's Responsible Purchasing Policy that guarantees everything we source is EU Timber Regulation compliant as an absolute minimum.

FINE FORM

Short lengths of timber, referred to as "sticks", are joined. These now longer lengths of timber are glued together under pressure to form a blank which is then machined to the required length and width.

Step4

Locked and loaded

Full-length stave blanks follow a similar process to finger jointed blanks, except they’re longer to begin with.

The worktop is now sanded, quality checked, wrapped and delivered to PWS.

THE LONG, WINDING ROAD

From the forests of the world, our timber is treated with great care as it winds its way to us by sea and road. Each worktop must arrive in immaculate condition to be passed by our inspection processes.

Step5

Setting the standard

Our timber team are thoroughly trained, and their expertise ensures our customers receive the highest quality worktops.

They are a gifted bunch who can, regardless of your design, fabricate it, with care and precision for a bespoke timber worktop.

Step6

TIMBER IN THE MACHINE

Using the most advanced technology in the industry, our CNC Champions programme their machines to the specification unique to each customer's requirements.

The blanks, after being cut to length, are placed on our CNC machines which cut with incredible precision to the required size and shape, including any sink cut-out and drainer grooves, etc.

Step7

MEASURE UP

It’s not a one size fits all operation that we do. We do bespoke, and we deliver the exact worktop for your specifications.

Any worktops that are wider than our available blank sizes are machined; biscuit jointed, glued and clamped to make a wider width worktop.

Step8

SANDING TALL

Sanding takes place in a designated dust-free environment. We even re-sand the surface between coats of oil, all designed to ensure the best possible finish, using the most up-to-date machinery.

Step9

FINISHING TOUCH

We never varnish anything. Ever.

Our team of finishers inspect every job and each timber worktop is treated with three coats of Danish oil, which seals the worktop and enhances the timber grain pattern, and five coats on the end grain.

It doesn’t end there, with every bespoke worktop we produce, we send an aftercare kit to our customers, along with fixing screws & brackets.

Each worktop is packed with care; the timber is protected with polystyrene edge channels and cardboard box packaging.
